The Assistant Sr., Advocacy and Communications role supports ChildFund International's Center in Africa by driving communications and advocacy strategies focused on child protection and online safety. The position involves organizing convenings, developing policy materials, managing digital presence, and collaborating with partners and youth advocates to maximize policy impact and brand visibility across the continent.
Primary Responsibilities
Advocacy and Partnerships
- Support the organization of regional and global convenings (forums, dialogues, webinars) with partners, influencers, and youth advocates.
- Assist in developing advocacy briefs, policy summaries, and campaign materials targeting governments, regulators, and digital industry actors.
- Collaborate with partners and youth representatives to ensure their perspectives shape advocacy messaging and storytelling.
- Track regional policy developments and contribute to briefings on emerging online safety issues.
- Support coordination and communication within the center, ensuring synergy across partners.
Communications and Branding
- Support implementation of the center’s communication and advocacy strategy, ensuring consistent messaging and brand visibility across Africa.
- Coordinate the center’s digital platforms and web presence, ensuring timely publication of updates, campaigns, and resources.
- Draft web stories, press releases, social media content, newsletters, blogs, and talking points highlighting ChildFund’s work, partnerships, and policy impact.
- Support the creation of multimedia content (graphics, videos, infographics) for awareness and advocacy campaigns, including youth and survivor stories.
- Manage media lists, social media analytics, and digital engagement reports.
Research and Knowledge Management
- Contribute to the production and dissemination of research summaries, evidence briefs, and knowledge products from the center’s studies and pilot programs.
- Maintain an information repository (photos, case studies, media coverage, and advocacy documents).
- Support the monitoring of public awareness campaigns and evaluation of communication impact.
Coordination and Administration
- Provide logistical and administrative support for events, workshops, and media engagements (agendas, minutes, follow-ups).
- Manage a database of partners, influencers, and media contacts.
- Liaise with design, translation, and printing vendors to ensure quality and timely delivery of materials.
- Contribute to quarterly and annual reports summarizing advocacy and communication outcomes.
Required Experience and Education
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, Public Relations, Journalism, International Relations, Social Sciences, or related fields.
- 3–5 years of relevant experience in advocacy, communications, or media engagement within the development, technology, or child protection sectors.
- Knowledge of online child protection, digital safety, or youth engagement is strongly preferred.
- Experience with social media management, digital storytelling, or content creation for advocacy.
- Experience working with multi-stakeholders or coalition-driven initiatives is an asset.
