The Nobel Women’s Initiative is led by eight women Nobel Peace Prize laureates: Jody Williams (USA), Shirin Ebadi (Iran), Tawakkol Karman (Yemen), Leymah Gbowee (Liberia), Rigoberta Menchú Tum (Guatemala), Narges Mohammadi (Iran), Maria Ressa (Philippines) and Oleksandra Matviichuk (Ukraine). The organization emphasizes the crucial role women play in attaining lasting peace.
This role is for a Communications Consultant based in Nairobi to provide focused media and communication support for an upcoming high-level convening, "Rooted & Rising."
Role Responsibilities
In collaboration with the Communications and Partnership team, the consultant will:
- Advise on communications strategy.
- Media Outreach and Coordination: Direct outreach to media and coordinate with local, national, regional, and international media, securing media outputs and coverage based on strategy, existing contacts, and agreed messaging.
- Event Organization (Press): Organize a high-level press conference and media interviews for Nobel laureates and participants of the Rooted & Rising convening, including liaising with the venue, managing invitations, and handling other organizational details.
- Media Preparation: Provide preparatory briefings on media engagement.
- Reporting: Deliver a media and outreach impact report after the event.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Education: BA/BSc/HND qualification.
- Experience: At least 3 years of broad communications experience.
- Media Expertise: Experience working with the media and strong relationships with local, national, and regional journalists/media contacts.
- Language Proficiency: Fluent in both Swahili and English.
- Market Knowledge: Solid understanding of the media landscape in Kenya and the broader region.
- Work Style: Ability to work autonomously.
- Location: Must be based in Nairobi.
- Availability: Must be available to participate in relevant convening activities (such as a press conference) between 1–5 March 2026.
