The Assistant Liquorer Cupping/Coffee Roaster is responsible for ensuring that green bean coffee samples are promptly roasted for timely analysis by the Coffee Liquorer(s). The core activities include prioritizing the roasting of auction catalogue samples and other direct offer samples from farmers, implementing instructions issued by the team lead, monitoring roaster machine effectiveness, and reporting maintenance needs. The position holder also ensures that Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) procedures are fully observed within the quality laboratory environment.
Main Responsibilities
Roasting coffee samples from both auction catalogues and direct offers from farmers as presented by the Liquorer.
Setting and preparing cupping tables for organoleptic analysis.
Maintaining proper sanitation within the quality laboratory environment.
Handling coffee samples within the laboratory area and performing discards as required on instruction.
Training other laboratory staff on the coffee roasting process.
Executing any other responsibilities assigned on a day-to-day basis.
Qualifications & Experience
Education: Post-secondary education training is a requirement. A Certificate and/or Diploma training in Coffee Knowledge is an added advantage.
Experience: Previous experience in coffee roasting operations, preferably in a busy coffee laboratory setup.
Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with coffee laboratory equipment, testing procedures, coffee processing methods, and industry quality standards.
Sensory Skills: Sensory evaluation skills, including cupping proficiency, will be an added advantage.
IT Skills: Computer literate, primarily in Microsoft Office applications.
Languages: Proficiency in English and Kiswahili.
