Role Overview
This position is responsible for providing animal disease control and welfare services within Nairobi City County. The role involves overseeing technical staff and implementing strategic pest and disease control programs to ensure the health and safety of livestock and the public.
Key Responsibilities
Managerial and Supervisory Responsibilities
- Supervise Sub-County technical officers in the implementation of planned pest control activities.
- Coordinate and promote the development and transfer of appropriate technologies for disease control.
Operational Responsibilities
- Plan animal disease control and identification activities.
- Manage quarantine stations and sentinel herds.
- Organize teams for animal disease surveillance and reporting.
- Issue livestock movement permits.
- Plan farmer field trainings and disseminate animal health information.
- Carry out monitoring and evaluation of animal health programs.
- Prepare preliminary assessment reports for the construction of slaughterhouses and farm structures.
- Gather data and compile technical reports on animal health and welfare.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Academic Qualifications: A Bachelor of Science Degree in Animal Health Management, Animal Health and Production, or a related discipline from a recognized institution. A Master of Science Degree in these fields is an added advantage.
- Professional Qualifications: Registration and retention by the Kenya Veterinary Board (KVB).
- Experience: Must have served in the grade of Principal Assistant Livestock Health Officer for a minimum period of three (3) years in Job Group N.
- Certifications: Certificate in Computer application skills and a Certificate in Management Course from a recognized institution.
- Compliance: Must meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya regarding leadership and integrity.
