The Nairobi City County Public Service Board is seeking to recruit ten (10) dedicated individuals for the position of Animal Health Assistant II (Meat Inspector). The role is primarily responsible for delivering animal health and veterinary public health services, ensuring that livestock products meet safety standards for public consumption and that animal welfare regulations are upheld.
Key Responsibilities
Meat Inspection and Safety: Carry out meat inspection and grading in slaughterhouses; enforce slaughterhouse hygiene and meat transport regulations; and issue meat condemnations when necessary.
Animal Treatment and Care: Perform simple treatment of animals; undertake vaccinations; and perform procedures such as closed castration, dehorning, de-worming, disbudding, docking, debeaking, and hoof trimming.
Regulatory Duties: Record daily animal kills in slaughterhouses; issue certificates of transport and movement permits; and participate in disease search and reporting activities.
Technical Assistance: Demonstrate milking techniques and external parasite control methods such as dipping, spraying, and dusting.
Requirements and Qualifications
Academic Qualification: Must possess a Certificate lasting not less than two (2) years in Animal Health or Animal Health and Production from a recognized institution.
Professional Certification: Must have a specialized Certificate in Meat Inspection.
Registration: Must be professionally registered and have a valid retention certificate with the Kenya Veterinary Board (KVB).
Computer Literacy: Certificate in Computer application skills.
Experience: This is an entry point for paraprofessional cadres.
Integrity: Candidates must meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya regarding leadership and integrity.
