Our client, an international organization, is looking to recruit an Agricultural Market Specialist for an 8-month period. The successful candidate will monitor developments in the agricultural market across both Kenya and Tanzania, identifying areas of strategic interest and fostering collaborations with local stakeholders.
Responsibilities
Monitor developments in the agricultural market in both Kenya and Tanzania and identify the areas of greatest interest to client companies in the sector.
Identify local stakeholders—businesses, cooperatives, public agencies, universities, and research centers—to foster collaboration and leverage resources for sustainable market development.
Conduct a census of all companies dealing in agricultural machinery, equipment, and products, with particular attention to importers.
Support activities in cross-border cooperation (Kenya & Tanzania), organization of exploratory missions, bilateral meetings, and promotional activities aimed at client companies in the agricultural and agri-food sectors.
Utilize statistical programs to prepare market research and contribute to the development of industry-specific market studies and analyses.
Respond to requests from client companies and trade associations, providing technical assistance and guidance to local partner organizations to enhance productive capacities and quality standards.
Facilitate cross-border trade and develop constraints analysis to determine specific value chains with intra-regional and international export potential.
Develop and support scaling of in-country farmer sourcing models and enhanced value addition and agro-processing capabilities/technologies of SMEs.
Contribute to knowledge management by documenting best practices, lessons learned, and innovative approaches in agricultural market systems development.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness, Economics, Statistics, or related fields.
Progressive experience (5 - 8 years) in market analysis of sectors such as agro-industry, deployment of new technologies in agriculture, and agricultural machinery.
Minimum of 5 - 8 years’ experience working in a similar role.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to synthesize complex information and generate actionable recommendations.
Exceptional time and deadline management skills; ability to lead, organize, prioritize, and manage tasks to drive goals.
Adaptable and flexible; responsive and resourceful in a fast-paced business.
Superior verbal and written communication skills.
Fluent in English and Swahili languages.
Knowledge of the Italian language is an added advantage.
Knowledge and experience working with associations, government entities, export and import promotion companies is a plus.
Experience in statistical packages such as SPSS, Advanced Excel, MATLAB, STATA, or R-SOFTWARE.
N/B: A work permit to work in Kenya for Expatriates and non-residents is required.
