Job Description
CABI (Centre for Agriculture and Biosciences International) is an international not-for-profit organization that improves people’s lives worldwide by providing information and applying scientific expertise to solve problems in agriculture and the environment. We are seeking an Agri Digital Tools Coordinator to lead the promotion and adoption of CABI’s suite of digital advisory tools, specifically the CABI Bio Protection Portal and the Crop Sprayer App.
Role Overview
The Agri Digital Tools Coordinator will be responsible for stakeholder analysis, establishing networks with high-profile agricultural organizations, and driving the engagement and usage of digital tools among agro-advisory service providers and farmers across Africa. The role involves developing communication materials, managing project budgets, and monitoring the impact of digital initiatives within the CABI PlantwisePlus programme.
Responsibilities
Conduct stakeholder analysis and establish networks with agricultural organizations (FPOs, NGOs, cooperatives) at national, international, and community levels.
Prioritize collaboration with organizations to promote digital advisory tools, specifically the CABI Bio Protection Portal and the Crop Sprayer App.
Identify and utilize appropriate communication channels (social media, radio, WhatsApp, etc.) and languages to maximize user reach.
Develop a suite of communication materials, including online/face-to-face training, social media messaging, flyers, posters, and video clips.
Monitor tool usage to assess impact and calculate the return on investment (ROI).
Attend national industry events and conferences as a thought leader to promote rational biopesticide use via digital tools.
Recommend potential biocontrol manufacturer partners and private sector sponsors for portal sustainability.
Leverage personal professional social networks (LinkedIn/Twitter) to drive tool engagement.
Manage project budgets and report performance against targets.
Develop and optimize processes for activity management and efficiency.
Align activities with the broader CABI PlantwisePlus programme through regular staff communication.
Experience and Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Marketing, Digital Technology, Communications, or a related field.
Experience: Over 5 years of experience working with and communicating with agro-advisory service providers and farmers in Kenya, Ghana, Uganda, and Zambia.
Industry Knowledge: Proven experience in marketing digital products and a strong understanding of marketing strategies within the agricultural sector.
Network: Established contacts in the public sector (Ministry of Agriculture), international organizations (e.g., ICRISAT, CIMMYT), and social media influence.
Stakeholder Management: Demonstrated ability to manage and cultivate partnerships with external organizations.
Skills
Ability to work across cultures and geographic boundaries.
Strong team player with excellent technical management skills.
Ability to work on own initiative and meet targets within budget.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
Fluency in English; knowledge of other African languages is an advantage.
Role Details
Grade: HAY Band 5
Contract: 1-year fixed-term contract
Reporting: To the Head of Programmes Marketing
Requirements: Available for extensive travel across Africa
