The Workshop Supervisor is a unit-level supervisory role reporting to the Workshop Manager. The primary focus of this position is to oversee the day-to-day operations of the factory, managing workshop and off-site staff, including site installers, while ensuring financial targets and quality standards are met.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Returns
Monitor budget and control labor costs and expenses with a focus on rate strategy, building initiatives and inventory management.
Coordinate resources to ensure work is delivered on time and in the required quality.
Develop plans to reduce operational costs without compromising quality of manufactured products.
Achieve budgeted revenues and personal/team sales goals and maximize profitability.
Prepare and submit statistical, performance, forecast analyses and monthly reports on time.
Analyze current/potential market and sales trends, coordinate activities to increase revenue and market share and monitor performance to ensure actual sales meet and exceed established revenue plan.
Maintain/design procedures for security of monies, credit and financial transactions, client security and inventory control.
People Management
Manage day-to-day staffing requirements, plan and assign work, and establish performance and development goals for team members.
Provide mentoring, coaching and regular feedback to help manage conflict and improve team member performance.
Educate and train team members in compliance with company, state and local laws and safety regulations.
Ensure staff is properly trained and has the tools and equipment to carry out job duties, including machine and equipment usage, systems, security and cash-handling procedures.
Promote company culture and values and ensure business decisions are made in line with these.
Facilitate a clean and safe working environment for all employees according to state labor laws.
Attend communication meetings and hold regular performance briefs with the team.
Lead innovation in new products and new methods and processes of production.
Maintain records of timekeeping and work logs.
Client Experience
Ensure staff deliver orders promptly and with meticulous attention to detail.
Ensure staff interact effectively with clients to identify needs and record orders accurately.
Respond appropriately to client complaints and build relationships to drive satisfaction.
Conduct routine inspections of the workshop and showroom to correct deficiencies.
Develop systems to record and store information pertaining to client enquiries.
Responsible Business
Check billing instructions and client credit for compliance with company credit policy.
Train team members on emergency procedures and maintain relationships with emergency personnel.
Ensure minimal wastage and proper disposal of materials to minimize environmental footprint.
Track company vehicles and equipment on the road and investigate maintenance concerns.
Requirements and Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree, Diploma, or higher education qualification in Woodworks, Interior Design, Business Administration, or Project Management.
At least 3 years of commercial woodwork factory operation experience including supervisory experience.
Fluency in English (written and spoken).
Ability to frequently patrol the workshop, showroom, and general factory area.
Physical ability to carry or lift items weighing up to 50 kilograms.
Proficiency in using computers to generate quotations and reports.
Strong mathematical skills (budgeting, profit/loss concepts, percentages, and variances).
Demonstrated ability to interact professionally with clients and employees.
