As the Workshop Manager at The Edition Investments Limited, you will utilize a high degree of technical and managerial expertise to oversee all aspects of the workshop and showroom. This includes managing the production process, showroom design, sales leads, and requisitions to deliver products that are unique, durable, and of superior quality. The role is designed to make clients feel special, wanted, and informed through professional and attentive service.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management
Participate in the preparation of the annual operating budget and financial/marketing plans.
Monitor budgets and control labor costs and expenses with a focus on rate strategy and inventory management.
Develop plans to reduce operational costs without compromising the quality of manufactured products.
Achieve budgeted revenues and personal/team sales goals to maximize profitability.
Prepare and submit statistical, performance, and forecast reports on time.
Maintain and design procedures for security of monies, credit transactions, and inventory control.
People and Culture
Manage daily staffing requirements, plan work assignments, and establish performance goals for team members.
Provide mentoring, coaching, and regular feedback to resolve conflict and improve performance.
Educate and train team members in compliance with company, state, and local laws and safety regulations.
Ensure staff is properly trained on machine usage, systems, and manufacturing quality standards.
Promote company culture and values in all business decisions.
Facilitate a clean and safe working environment according to labor laws.
Lead innovation in new products and processes, championing change within the company.
Maintain records of timekeeping and logs of work undertaken.
Client Experience
Ensure staff deliver orders promptly with meticulous attention to detail.
Interact effectively with clients to identify needs and ensure orders are recorded accurately.
Respond appropriately to client complaints and solicit feedback to drive continuous improvement.
Conduct routine inspections of the workshop and showroom to correct deficiencies.
Implement systems to record and store information pertaining to client inquiries.
Responsible Business Operations
Check billing instructions and client credit for compliance with company policy.
Train team members on emergency procedures and serve as a central communications point during crises.
Ensure minimal wastage and proper disposal of materials to minimize environmental footprint.
Track company vehicles and equipment, investigating maintenance concerns and customer complaints.
Requirements and Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree, Diploma, or higher education qualification in Woodworks, Interior Design, Business Administration, or Project Management from a recognized institution.
At least 5 years of commercial woodwork factory operation experience, including management experience.
Fluent English speaking and writing skills.
Physical ability to frequently patrol the workshop, showroom, and factory area.
Capability to carry or lift items weighing up to 50 kilograms.
Experience handling various workshop equipment and machines.
Proficiency in using computers to generate quotations and management reports.
Strong mathematical skills, including budgeting, profit/loss concepts, percentages, and variances.
Demonstrated problem-solving, reasoning, motivating, and organizational abilities.
