The Underwriter is responsible for reviewing proposal forms, verifying client data, and assessing proposed risks within established standards. This role involves counter-checking policy terms and conditions to ensure compliance and accuracy in the insurance process.
Key Responsibilities
Risk Assessment: Evaluate proposed risks according to set standards and delegated authority levels.
Documentation: Review proposal forms and issue policy documents for general business lines.
Record Keeping: Maintain detailed and accurate records of all policies underwritten and decisions made.
Customer Service: Maintain high standards by responding to client inquiries (walk-ins, telephone, and emails) and communicating renewal terms.
Intermediary Liaison: Collaborate with intermediaries and direct clients on issues relating to their insurance policies.
Policy Management: Release policy documents, endorsements, and valuation reports to clients; generate renewal notices for all renewal business.
Credit Control: Apply the credit control policy by ensuring debit/credit notes are raised and mailed to clients/intermediaries promptly.
Requirements and Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree, with a preference for an insurance option.
Professional Certification: Must possess Insurance certifications such as IIK or ACII.
Experience: At least 3-4 years of professional experience within the insurance industry.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in computer applications and literacy.
