Job Description
Urgent Action Fund-Africa (UAF-Africa) is seeking a qualified Housekeeper to join The Healing Farm team in Kitui. Reporting directly to the Healing Farm Environmental Health and Safety Officer, the Housekeeper plays a vital role in ensuring the cleanliness, hygiene, and overall hospitality of the facility. This role involves maintaining high standards for accommodation, meal preparation, and facility support to ensure a comfortable environment for guests and staff.
Responsibilities
Facility Maintenance: Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of all accommodation facilities, including bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchens, and common areas. Perform routine cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, dusting, sanitizing surfaces, and waste disposal.
Guest Room Preparation: Ensure that rooms are prepared and maintained to a high standard for incoming and current occupants, including bed making, linen changes, and restocking essentials.
Maintenance Reporting: Monitor and report any maintenance or repair needs within the facilities to the supervisor.
Laundry Duties: Manage laundry duties, including washing, drying, ironing, and proper storage of linens and towels.
Meal Preparation: Prepare and cook meals in accordance with agreed menus, dietary requirements, and hygiene standards. Ensure proper food handling, storage, and kitchen cleanliness in line with health and safety regulations.
Inventory Management: Maintain an inventory of cleaning supplies, food items, and kitchen equipment, and notify management when replenishment is required.
Event Support: Provide support during events or group stays at the Healing Farm, including meal preparation and facility readiness.
Security: Ensure security of the premises by properly locking facilities and reporting any unusual activity.
Professional Conduct: Uphold confidentiality and professionalism when interacting with guests and staff.
Requirements
Education: High school education.
Experience: At least three to five years of progressively responsible work experience. Proven experience in housekeeping, cleaning, or domestic work; experience in a hospitality or accommodation setting is an advantage.
Language: Proficiency in spoken and written English.
Cooking: Basic cooking skills with the ability to prepare simple, nutritious meals.
Knowledge: Understanding of basic hygiene, food safety, and sanitation practices.
Physical Fitness: Physically fit and able to carry out cleaning and kitchen duties.
Certifications: A valid police clearance certificate (or willingness to obtain one prior to appointment).
Expected Conduct
Maintain strict confidentiality at all times regarding information or materials accessed during work.
Consistently report to work on time and provide notice if unable to arrive as scheduled.
Demonstrate respectful and courteous behavior towards guests, colleagues, and management.
Act with honesty and responsibility for assigned duties and resources.
