The role of Technician - Nanyuki at Inchcape Kenya LTD is focused on the specialized diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of agricultural and heavy machinery. The technician is responsible for ensuring the equipment functions properly according to Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) standards, both in the workshop and in the field, while maintaining high safety standards and providing excellent customer service.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Diagnosis and Repair: Conduct diagnostic assessments and repairs on tractors and mechanical systems, troubleshooting hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical issues both in the field and the workshop.
- Technical Overhauls: Execute technical overhauls including engine rebuilds, transmission repairs, and brake or hydraulic system fixes according to OEM standards.
- Preventive Maintenance: Perform preventive maintenance such as oil changes, filter replacements, and lubrication, while ensuring all routine services follow manufacturer guidelines.
- Equipment Management: Manage pre-delivery inspections (PDI) and the assembly of new units to ensure equipment readiness.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure quality assurance by testing repaired equipment for proper functionality and safety compliance while meticulously documenting all maintenance performed.
- Customer Service: Provide professional customer service by communicating repair needs to clients, offering equipment care recommendations, and advising supervisors on maintenance requirements.
- Safety and Compliance: Maintain workshop safety and compliance by adhering to occupational health and safety regulations and keeping a clean, organized work environment.
- Tool Management and Reporting: Oversee tool management and reporting by ensuring diagnostic equipment is properly maintained and keeping accurate service records and part usage logs.
- Support and Training: Deliver technical support and training to operators and colleagues, and complete warranty or product improvement work as per OEM instructions.
- Continuous Learning: Participate in continuous learning through mandatory OEM and company training sessions to stay updated on agricultural machinery functionality.
Qualifications and Requirements
To be successful in this role, candidates must possess:
- Experience: At least 2 years of experience specifically in agricultural or heavy machinery servicing.
- Education: A minimum technical diploma or certification in mechanical/automotive engineering or a related field. (Equivalent to BA/BSc/HND or Diploma)
- Technical Knowledge: Strong mechanical aptitude with specific knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, and engine systems.
- Operational Skills: Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and OEM instructions accurately.
- Soft Skills: Good communication skills and customer service orientation.
