The Staff Accountant, Financial Operations will manage and strengthen Viya Health’s financial operations across Kenya and Uganda, ensuring integrity of financial reporting, strengthening of financial controls and providing critical insights to drive business decisions in a complex and evolving regional environment. The ideal candidate will be a pragmatic business partner with experience in the financial and operational landscape. We're looking for a hands-on executor who understands how to translate strategy into results, and who’s ready to grow into a broader regional leadership role as we expand.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Analysis
Lead and consolidate timely financial reports for both countries.
Conduct monthly variance analysis and provide financial insights to management.
Ensure compliance with Viya Health’s financial policies.
Accounting Operations
Perform general ledger accounting, journal entries and bank reconciliations.
Manage the month-end close process in QuickBooks Online (QBO) to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
Maintain proper documentation and audit trail for all financial transactions.
Budgeting & Forecasting
Lead the development of annual budgets and forecasts.
Monitor budget performance and flag deviations for management action.
Work with teams across both countries to align spending with priorities.
Cash Flow & Treasury
Management of cash flow requirements across Kenya and Uganda.
Facilitate inter-country fund transfers and maintain effective relationships with banking partners.
Compliance & Audit Support
Ensure adherence to statutory tax obligations and financial regulations in both countries.
Support internal and external audits and implement audit recommendations.
Maintain and monitor internal control frameworks to mitigate financial risks.
Inventory & Fixed Assets
Oversee inventory valuation, stock movement tracking, and identification of obsolescence risks.
Maintain fixed asset registers, depreciation schedules, and physical verification processes.
Policy Implementation, Controls & Capacity Building
Support the rollout and enforcement of finance policies and procedures across both countries.
Provide training and technical support to in-country finance teams to ensure consistent application of standards.
Promote best practices in financial management, internal controls, and process improvement.
Contribute to harmonization and standardization of financial operations across Kenya and Uganda.
Performance Monitoring
Track key financial KPIs including reporting timelines, audit readiness, and budget accuracy.
Provide regular updates to regional leadership on financial operations health.
Requirements
Educational Background:
Bachelor's Degree (or international equivalent) in accounting or finance related field.
Professional financial accreditation is preferred.
Professional Experience:
At least 5-7 years of progressive accounting/finance experience.
Expert Excel experience required.
Exposure to Quick Books Online (QBO) is an advantage.
Proven work experience with East Africa is essential and solid understanding of the financial frameworks.
