Old Mutual Kenya is seeking a Senior Underwriter/ Relationship Officer for Business Retention. The primary purpose of this role is to manage and retain positive relationships with intermediaries to ensure smooth and maximum retention of profitable business. The successful candidate will oversee the entire renewal cycle, maintain service reputation, and identify growth opportunities within existing portfolios.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
- Renewal Management: Oversee the renewals cycle by ensuring terms and notices are dispatched by the 15th of every month. Maintain and update the renewal tracker daily and follow up on renewals via phone, visits, and emails.
- Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with intermediaries. Participate in renewal review meetings with intermediaries and clients to retain business.
- Underwriting & Strategy: Initiate approval of renewal terms in liaison with the reinsurance team to ensure competitiveness. Review account performance to filter out toxic accounts and focus on profitable renewals.
- Business Growth: Identify opportunities for cross-selling or upselling to existing clients by reviewing insurance portfolios to foster organic growth.
- Operational Closure: Ensure renewal confirmations and risk notes are obtained before monthly closure. Secure premium payment plans at the point of confirmation.
- Customer Service: Provide prompt and professional resolution of customer complaints and inquiries to maintain a positive business reputation.
- Market Intelligence: Collect market intelligence to inform strategic renewal decisions and follow up on lost or unrenewed business for recovery.
- Credit Control Support: Assist the credit control team by collecting renewal premiums and providing feedback on policies due for cancellation.
- Risk Management: Follow up on the implementation of risk improvements.

Requirements and Qualifications
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in the insurance sector.
- A Degree in insurance, business, or a related field.
- Professional insurance qualification (CII or IIK) or significant progress towards completion.
