The Senior Protocol Specialist serves as an expert in navigating protocol issues with the Kenyan government and other diplomatic entities. The role involves developing an extensive range of contacts and managing meetings with key officials from the Government of Kenya, international organizations resident in Kenya, and staff from private companies and non-governmental organizations. The incumbent participates in the Mission’s strategic planning, policy development, and operations for the Protocol Office, and serves as the Ambassador’s principal liaison with the Kenyan government and Protocol Offices within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Office of the President.\n\n### Key Responsibilities\n\n#### Protocol Liaison and Contact Development (60%)\n- Serve as the Ambassador’s principal liaison with the Kenyan government and Ministry of Foreign Affairs.\n- Develop networks to acquire documents and information needed by the Mission.\n- Identify and advise on key decision-makers and influential people in Kenya.\n- Proactively advise the Ambassador and DCM on protocol and related government matters.\n\n#### Event Management (30%)\n- Oversee logistical support for event preparation, leading major functions.\n- Supervise the preparation of guest lists, invitations, and seating arrangements.\n- Coordinate with the Residence Manager on representational events at official residences.\n- Identify and introduce VIP guests to the Ambassador during events.\n- Coordinate with the Regional Security Office regarding visitor access.\n\n#### Correspondence and Communication (10%)\n- Advise on strategic written communication with Kenyan officials.\n- Follow up on meeting requests and inquiries with relevant government offices.\n- Prepare culturally and situationally appropriate remarks for the Ambassador and DCM for ceremonial events.\n\n### Requirements and Qualifications\n- Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Business, International Relations, Political Science, Liberal Arts, Public Relations, or a related field is required.\n- General Experience: Three years of progressively responsible experience in protocol, executive-level office management, business, political, or external relations is required.
