FSD Africa is seeking a Senior Project Manager for the AFIYA programme to lead the development and maintenance of a single, integrated delivery plan covering all workstreams and countries. This role ensures clear sequencing of activities, identification of dependencies, and visibility of key decision points across the programme lifecycle. The successful candidate will strengthen programme delivery discipline through structured planning cycles, milestone tracking, and clear reporting rhythms while supporting adaptive management and risk analysis.
Key Responsibilities
Programme Planning & Coordination
- Lead the development and maintenance of an integrated AFIYA delivery plan covering all workstreams and countries.
- Maintain a rolling 12–18 month forward delivery horizon, refreshed quarterly to reflect programme performance and contextual shifts.
- Ensure alignment between AFIYA strategic priorities, approved budgets, partner delivery plans, and implementation timelines.
- Provide end-to-end visibility of programme progress, surfacing implementation risks and bottlenecks early.
- Strengthen delivery discipline through structured planning cycles and milestone tracking across countries and partners.
- Support the Head of Delivery with credible, timely performance data and forward-looking risk analysis.
- Coordinate planning and delivery interfaces across technical teams, country teams, and implementing partners.
- Support adaptive programme management by treating delivery plans as living tools responsive to learning and evidence.
Delivery Cadence & Governance
- Design and drive a consistent programme delivery rhythm (weekly check-ins, monthly performance reviews, quarterly portfolio reviews).
- Establish and maintain strong governance standards across programme forums.
- Prepare decision-focused agendas, high-quality pre-read materials, and structured action trackers.
- Document and track all decisions, actions, and next steps to completion.
- Communicate governance outputs to relevant stakeholders in a timely manner.
Risk, Dependency & Decision Management
- Maintain a programme-level risk and dependency register covering delivery, financial, facility-related, and fiduciary risks.
- Proactively identify emerging risks and escalate them with clear options for resolution.
- Monitor critical dependencies across workstreams and countries to minimize delivery delays.
- Support evidence-based decision-making with timely analysis and actionable insights.
Adaptive Management Support
- Utilize milestones and budgets as adaptive tools to pivot in response to emerging information and changing contexts.
- Facilitate structured learning and reflection sessions to encourage collaborative course correction.
- Monitor assumptions underpinning programme design and trigger decision-making when assumptions are no longer valid.
- Foster a culture of adaptive management within the programme teams and partners.
Requirements
- Education: Master’s degree with 9 years of experience or Bachelor’s Degree with 11 years of experience in Project Management, Finance, Economics, Business, or a related field.
- Experience: At least 10 years’ experience managing or supporting complex, multi-country development programmes.
- Technical Expertise: Demonstrated experience with adaptive, market-systems, or financial-inclusion programmes.
- Planning Skills: Strong capability in planning, forecasting, and tracking project performance across multiple workstreams.
- Analytical Ability: Ability to synthesise complex information and provide clear, actionable recommendations.
- Soft Skills: High comfort operating in ambiguity, sound judgement in risk identification, and excellent communication skills for senior stakeholders.
