Amref International University (AMIU) is seeking a Senior Lecturer in Medical Surgical Nursing to develop, manage, and monitor the implementation of Nursing and Midwifery Sciences programmes and related activities at the university.
Role Overview
The position holder provides academic leadership, teaching and training, curriculum development and review, research and innovation, grant writing, publishing, graduate student supervision, and academic administration while adhering to quality assurance and regulatory accreditation requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning
- Deliver lectures, tutorials, and practical sessions in the assigned area of expertise.
- Develop and update teaching materials, including digital content.
- Assess and grade students' assignments, exams, and projects while providing constructive feedback.
- Supervise and mentor undergraduate students in their academic projects and research.
- Apply and utilize modern teaching methods, including e-learning tools and student-centered approaches.
- Engage in departmental teaching activities including timetabling, course-loading, moderation of exams, exam supervision, and marking.
- Provide academic leadership for Departmental programs.
Curriculum Development
- Participate in designing and reviewing course curricula to align with academic standards and market needs.
- Identify programs that can be developed by the department and spearhead curriculum development.
Research, Innovation, and Scholarship
- Conduct individual or collaborative research for personal and departmental growth.
- Continuously publish findings in peer-reviewed journals, books, seminars, or conferences.
- Identify and participate in seeking research grants and other funding opportunities.
- Engage in departmental fundraising activities.
Academic Administration
- Participate in departmental meetings, committees, and other institutional activities.
- Collaborate with other academics and lecturers to improve teaching methods and expand knowledge base.
- Provide support to students and colleagues.
- Contribute to program accreditation processes and quality assurance systems.
- Handle administrative responsibilities such as student advising and exam coordination.
- Supervise student research work, projects, theses, dissertations, and junior staff research activities.
Community Engagement and Professional Development
- Collaborate with external organizations, industry, and the community to enhance knowledge sharing.
- Participate in professional development activities such as workshops, seminars, and conferences.
- Represent the institution in public forums, professional bodies, and academic networks.
- Participate in training opportunities and initiatives at the university.
- Stay current by reading widely and producing published work in the field.
Marketing & Other Duties
- Participate in university and departmental marketing activities.
- Support the wider team and university leadership.
- Engage actively in the performance review process.
