Job Description
Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) is seeking a highly qualified and experienced professional for the position of Senior Accountant. The role involves overseeing high-level accounting practices, including strategic financial planning, comprehensive reporting, and the management of university revenue and expenditures. The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising accounting staff and ensuring the integrity of financial data through the use of modern accounting software and database management systems. This is a senior-level position requiring a solid grasp of financial operations within a large institutional framework.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
Provide leadership and oversight in the university's accounting practices.
Lead financial planning and prepare detailed financial reports for management review.
Manage and monitor university revenue streams and institutional expenditure.
Supervise, mentor, and evaluate accounting staff within the department.
Maintain and manage financial records using specialized accounting software and databases.
Ensure accurate data processing, spreadsheet management, and word processing for financial documentation.
Ensure compliance with all financial regulations and institutional policies.
Requirements and Qualifications
Applicants must meet one of the following two sets of criteria:
Option 1:
Master’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration (Finance or Accounting option) or equivalent from a recognized institution.
Bachelor’s degree in Commerce (Accounting or Finance option), Business Administration, or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
Certified Public Accountant of Kenya (CPA K) qualification.
Cumulative experience of 15 years and above in accounting practice.
Demonstrated solid grasp of financial planning, reporting, revenue/expenditure management, and staff supervision.
Proficiency in computer applications including word processing, database management, and spreadsheets, with experience in accounting software.
Option 2:
Master’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration (Finance or Accounting option) or equivalent from a recognized institution.
Bachelor’s degree in Commerce (Accounting or Finance option), Business Administration, or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
Five (5) years’ experience in Grade 13 or having acted as Senior Accountant, Grade 13 and above.
Cumulative experience of 15 years and above in accounting practice.
Demonstrated solid grasp of financial planning, reporting, revenue/expenditure management, and staff supervision.
Proficiency in computer applications including word processing, database management, and spreadsheets, with experience in accounting software.
