The Senior Accountant ensures accurate financial accounting, regulatory compliance, and reporting through proper bookkeeping, timely reconciliations, and preparation of statutory and management reports. Working closely with the Deputy Head of Finance and the Head of Finance, the role holder ensures adherence to accounting standards and insurance regulatory frameworks.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Accounting
Prepare monthly Management Accounts in compliance with IFRS 17 and IRA guidelines.
Ensure accurate posting of transactions in the general ledger and timely closure of books of accounts as per set deadlines.
Oversee the reconciliation and review of bank accounts and bank balances.
Prepare daily/weekly cash-flow reports.
Regulatory Compliance
Prepare and submit statutory returns to the Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA), Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), and other stakeholders.
Ensure VAT, PAYE, withholding tax, NHIF, NSSF, and other taxes are filed and paid within prescribed deadlines.
Support external audits and coordinate responses to audit queries.
Budgeting & Forecasting
Assist in the preparation of the annual budget and forecasts.
Monitor budget utilization and provide variance analysis.
General Duties
Monitor and approve Creditor Invoice Accruals, Surrenders, and Journal Vouchers.
Prepare the Asset Register, Prepayment Schedules, and periodic reports as required.
Prepare monthly rental income schedules.
Reconcile monthly customer M-Pesa deposits and their utilization.
Prepare monthly reports and perform any other duties as may be assigned.
Requirements
Academic & Professional Qualifications
University degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or equivalent from an institution recognized by the Commission for Higher Education.
CPA (K) or equivalent; active member of ICPAK.
Experience
Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a busy commercial Finance & Accounts Department.
Experience in Financial Management Systems.
Experience in business/department strategy formulation and execution.
Proven supervisory and leadership skills managing team/department performance.
