The Mastering Business Growth Company (Smartsales Kenya) is seeking an experienced and results-driven Sales Team Lead – FMCG. This role is pivotal in managing a dedicated sales team, driving exceptional sales performance, ensuring targets are met, and cultivating team members into high-performing sales professionals. The position requires a hands-on approach, combining active selling with robust team leadership, comprehensive training, strategic recruitment, and effective performance management.
Smartsales Kenya is a Kenyan-based sales company specializing in sales capability training and coaching. We work with entrepreneurs to grow their capacity to sell, supporting clients' growth ambitions by developing and executing client acquisition programs for digital products/services for tech startups as well as traditional businesses. We empower companies to increase revenue, close more deals, and scale with confidence.
Key Responsibilities
Sales & Business Development:
- Drive primary and secondary sales efforts to achieve monthly, quarterly, and annual targets.
- Develop and execute effective sales strategies that align with broader company objectives.
- Monitor relevant market trends, competitor activity, and customer feedback to inform strategy.
Team Management:
- Manage, motivate, and lead the sales team to ensure consistent delivery of results.
- Set precise individual targets and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for all team members.
- Conduct regular field visits, providing continuous coaching and performance reviews.
- Ensure discipline, maximize productivity, and implement effective route planning for the team.
Sales Training & Development:
- Deliver structured and impactful sales training programs.
- Coach team members on essential selling skills, in-depth product knowledge, and advanced negotiation techniques.
- Proactively identify skill gaps within the team and create specific improvement plans.
- Act as a dedicated Trainer, focusing on upgrading the team’s overall effectiveness.
Recruitment & Hiring:
- Interview, shortlist, and select sales executives.
- Support the seamless onboarding and induction process for new hires.
- Build a strong, capable sales team that is aligned with company culture.
Reporting & Administration:
- Prepare accurate daily, weekly, and monthly sales reports.
- Track target achievement meticulously, manage incentives, and report on overall team performance.
Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma qualification.
- Minimum of 5 years of demonstrated team leadership/management exposure.
- Strong knowledge of FMCG sales and distribution processes.
- Proven ability to effectively manage and develop sales teams.
- Excellent selling, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Experience in training and coaching sales staff.
- Must be target-driven with strong analytical and reporting skills.
- Possession of a strong leadership mindset combined with hands-on field experience.
