The Co-operative Bank of Kenya is seeking a highly qualified professional for the position of Chief Executive Officer (REF: CEO/ASS/2026). Reporting to the Board of Directors, the CEO will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the Sacco's operations, ensuring strategic growth and financial sustainability while maintaining strict adherence to regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy Execution: Develop and execute the Sacco’s strategic and business plans, aligning operations with the mission and cascading goals to divisional heads.
Financial Management: Oversee budgeting, liquidity, and investment portfolio management to ensure long-term sustainability and returns to shareholders.
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to SASRA guidelines, regulations, and all other relevant laws, rules, and regulations.
Digital Leadership: Lead the digital transformation strategy, including oversight of core banking systems and cybersecurity.
Business Development: Spearhead business development initiatives to expand membership and create innovative financial solutions.
Reporting: Provide regular, timely, and accurate reports to the board on financial performance, risk exposure, and audit findings.
Human Capital: Lead, mentor, supervise, and develop a high-performance staff culture, ensuring optimal talent acquisition and utilization.
Operational Excellence: Review and implement regulations, internal systems, structures, procedures, and controls to improve service quality.
Advisory Role: Attend all Board of Directors meetings in an advisory capacity.
Budget Oversight: Manage the Sacco’s budget ensuring spending is in line with the overall budget.
Resource Management: Coordinate Sacco activities to ensure optimum and efficient utilization of all assets and resources.
Representation: Represent the Sacco in forums, business transactions, and any other transaction authorized by the Board.
Attributes and Skills
Strategic and visionary leadership with strong business acumen.
Deep knowledge of the Sacco business model and the regulatory framework governing Deposit-Taking Saccos.
High degree of integrity, ethical judgment, and commitment to transparency and accountability.
Results-driven with excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Effective communicator with strong interpersonal, influencing, and negotiation skills.
Proven ability to lead change, transformation, and performance improvement initiatives.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Qualifications and Experience
A Business-related degree or its equivalent from a recognized university.
Professional qualification: CPA(K) or CPS(K) or equivalent.
Membership in a professional body and in good standing.
At least 10 years of practical experience in a Deposit-Taking Sacco, with at least 5 years in a Senior Management position.
Age: 40 years and above.
Added Advantage: Master’s degree in Strategic Management or a related discipline; Diploma or Degree in Co-operative Management.
