The Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) is a senior leadership role responsible for developing and implementing the Bank’s integrated commercial strategy aligned with the corporate strategic plan. This position is central to driving market share growth across priority sectors and geographic markets, identifying new sector opportunities, partnerships, and ecosystems. The role involves delivering sustainable growth in loans, deposits, fee income, and non-interest revenue while optimizing risk-adjusted returns across commercial portfolios.
Key Responsibilities
Commercial Strategy & Growth
- Develop and implement the Bank’s integrated commercial strategy aligned to the corporate strategic plan.
- Drive market share growth across priority sectors and geographic markets.
- Identify new sector opportunities, partnerships, and ecosystems.
Revenue & Profitability Management
- Deliver sustainable growth in loans, deposits, fee income, and non-interest revenue.
- Optimize risk-adjusted returns across commercial portfolios.
- Drive cross-selling and wallet share expansion.
Sector-Focused Value Proposition
- Design tailored banking propositions for each priority segment.
- Ensure product innovation aligned with sector needs.
- Strengthen sector intelligence and market insights.
Customer Experience Leadership
- Champion customer-centric culture across commercial teams.
- Ensure delivery of differentiated service standards.
- Drive NPS, retention, and relationship deepening.
Digital Commercialization
- Collaborate with Digital & Innovation teams to expand digital acquisition channels.
- Scale digital onboarding, lending, and transactional solutions.
- Embed data analytics in sales strategy and decision-making.
Risk & Portfolio Quality
- Ensure disciplined credit origination and portfolio monitoring.
- Partner with Risk and Credit teams to maintain portfolio health.
- Balance growth with compliance and prudential standards.
Leadership & Capability Building
- Build high-performing commercial teams.
- Strengthen sales discipline, pipeline management, and accountability.
- Develop leadership bench strength and succession pipelines.
Requirements
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, Banking, or related discipline.
- Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, or related field (highly desirable).
- Professional banking or finance certification (e.g., CPA, CFA, ACCA, AKIB or equivalent) is highly desirable.
- Executive leadership or strategy certification is an added advantage.
- Minimum 15 years’ banking experience, with at least 8 years in senior leadership roles and 5 years leading commercial/business banking functions.
- Proven track record in revenue growth and market expansion.
- Demonstrated success managing large commercial portfolios.
- Experience driving transformation or scaling growth in a financial institution.
- Strong exposure to multiple sectors (public sector, NGOs, institutions, corporates, etc.).
