The Risk and Compliance Associate is responsible for supporting in conducting compliance reviews on the implementation and operational effectiveness of the risk management policies in the University, analysing areas of potential risk, and making appropriate recommendations.
Duties & Responsibilities
Risk Management Practices Assessment
Implement compliance risk management plans and advise managers on the practical application of relevant regulatory requirements.
Support in maintaining a University-wide and aggregated view on the risk profile of the University including assisting with development of risk appetite and risk appetite reporting.
Coordinate with departmental heads on updating the risk register and tracking closure of action plans.
Monitor control mechanisms implemented as part of the risk management process and assess the operational effectiveness.
Compliance Monitoring and Enforcement
Implement compliance risk management plans and advise managers on the practical application of relevant regulatory requirements.
Monitor compliance with relevant laws, regulations, university policies, and accreditation standards.
Investigate potential non-compliance issues and take appropriate action.
Conduct and document compliance risk assessment for each function in the business unit to ascertain compliance with risk management policy, standard operating procedures, and set guidelines.
Policy Development, Review and Implementation
Develop and implement risk management and compliance policies and procedures.
Ensure that policies are clear, accessible, and effectively communicated to the university community.
Training and Communication
Coordinate and provide training programs related to specific risk management areas as required and guide users where necessary.
Provide training and education to faculty, staff, and students on risk management and compliance matters.
Communicate updates on regulatory changes and best practices.
Reporting
Prepare reports on risk and compliance activities for university leadership and relevant stakeholders.
Support internal and external audits.
Operational Responsibility
Recommendation on continuous improvement opportunities arising from the risk and compliance process.
Minimum Qualifications & Requirements
Academic: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., law, risk management, business administration)
Professional: Qualifications in either ICIFA/CISA/CISI/CRM, CISM, or CPA
Work Experience: Minimum of 1-3 years’ experience
