The World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) is seeking a Research Technician-ICRISAT to support its scientific initiatives. The successful candidate will devise and conduct laboratory, greenhouse, and field experiments, process biological samples, and analyze research data. The role involves managing lab operations, ensuring proper utilization of supplies, and collaborating within multidisciplinary and multicultural research teams across different local universities and research institutions.
Duties and Responsibilities
Devise and conduct laboratory, greenhouse, and field experiments.
Process samples and analyze data.
Communicate research results to responsible scientists through detailed reports and presentations.
Collaborate with industry and academia in developing new techniques, practices, or designing new research experiments.
Present ongoing works and findings to colleagues within ICRISAT as well as at academic conferences.
Carry out the necessary field components of research projects.
Teach and demonstrate relevant laboratory procedures to students, trainees, and other members of staff.
Work in multidisciplinary teams across different local universities and research institutions.
Maintain a laboratory management information system, seamlessly keeping track of inventory, equipment, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Ensure proper and responsible utilization of laboratory supplies and equipment by the laboratory team.
Requirements
A Master’s degree in biological sciences.
At least 1 year of experience in a rigorous molecular biology laboratory environment.
Experience in the design and implementation of “omics” experiments.
Sound knowledge of molecular genetics, genotyping, and trait discovery.
Knowledge of quantitative genetics.
Practical experience with R or Python programming languages for biological applications.
Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative team setting, preferably within a multi-cultural environment.
Prior experience in an international organization is an added advantage.
Proven ability to prioritize and organize work efficiently and independently.
