About the Organisation
Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) is a State Corporation established through the Science and Technology (Amendment) Act of 1979, which has since been amended to Science, Technology and Innovation Act 2013. The 1979 Act established KEMRI as a National body responsible for carrying out health research in Kenya.
About the Role
KEMRI is seeking a dynamic and goal-oriented Research Intern to support its biomedical research projects. This role offers hands-on clinical and laboratory experience, including data entry, sample archiving, participant recruitment, pathogen identification, and genome sequencing.
Key Responsibilities
Data Entry: Input research and laboratory data into the laboratory information management system (LIMS).
Sample Management: Handle sample reception, processing, and systematic archiving.
Participant Management: Recruit and enroll study participants, and administer informed consent forms, questionnaires, and case report forms.
Documentation & Reporting: Maintain detailed documentation of all study and laboratory activities, and generate comprehensive reports and summaries.
Laboratory Work: Perform laboratory testing for pathogen identification and utilize advanced genome sequencing technologies.
Analysis: Carry out basic data analysis as required.
Quality Management: Maintain Quality Management Systems (QMS) within the laboratory environment.
Vacancy Requirements
Bachelor of Science in any Biomedical Sciences from a recognized Institution (Mandatory).
Excellent communication skills, both spoken and written, in English and Swahili (Mandatory).
Highly motivated, goal-oriented, dynamic, passionate, and a self-starter (Mandatory).
High personal and professional integrity (Mandatory).
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills (Mandatory).
Computer literacy (Mandatory).
Excellent interpersonal skills and a strong team player (Mandatory).
