The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) is the National Prosecuting Authority in Kenya, established as an independent prosecutorial authority under Article 157 of the Constitution. The ODPP is mandated to prosecute all criminal cases in the country. This role involves representing the state in criminal proceedings, drafting legal documents, and ensuring justice is served through diligent prosecution across the judicial system.
Responsibilities
Prosecuting criminal cases in various courts.
Drafting legal documents and charge sheets.
Providing legal advice to the police and other investigative agencies.
Conducting legal research on criminal law and procedure.
Representing the Director of Public Prosecutions in legal proceedings.
Qualifications and Requirements
Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree from a recognized university.
Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Studies from the Council of Legal Education.
Admission as an advocate of the High Court of Kenya.
Member of the Law Society of Kenya in good standing.
Compliance with Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution of Kenya 2010 regarding integrity and leadership.
