The role of Principal Driver operates under the County Government of Kitui and is offered on Permanent and Pensionable Terms of Service.
Salary Scale: Ksh. 32,700 x 1,300 – 34,000 x 1,380 – 35,380 x 1,390 – 36,770 x 1,460 – 38,230 x 1,470 – 39,700 x 1,470 – 41,170 x 1,520 – 42,690 p.m.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Principal Driver is expected to perform the following core functions:
- Driving the assigned vehicle.
- Carrying out routine checks on the vehicle’s cooling, oil, electrical, tyre pressure and break systems, etc.
- Detecting and reporting malfunctioning of the vehicle systems.
- Maintenance of work ticket(s) for vehicle(s) assigned.
- Ensuring security and safety of the vehicle on and off the road.
- Overseeing safety of the passengers and /or goods therein.
- Maintaining cleanliness of the vehicle(s).
- Supervise and guide staff working under him/her in a small transport unit.
Requirements for Appointment
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must meet the following criteria:
- Be a Citizen of Kenya.
- Served in the grade of Chief Driver, Job Group ‘H’ for a minimum of three (3) years.
- Passed Occupational Trade Test I for Drivers.
- Hold a Valid driving license free from any current endorsement(s) for class(es) of vehicle(s) the officer is required to drive.
- Possess a Defensive Driving Certificate from the Automobile Association (AA) of Kenya or its equivalent qualification from a recognized Institution.
- Must have attended a Refresher Course for drivers lasting not less than one (1) week within every three (3) years at Kenya Institute of Highway and Building technology (KIHBT) or any other recognized Institution.
- Hold a valid Certificate of Good Conduct from the Kenya Police.
- Must have attended a First-Aid Certificate Course lasting not less than one (1) week from St. John Ambulance or Kenya Institute of Highway and Building Technology (KIHBT) or any other recognized Institution.
- Demonstrated outstanding professional competence in work performance and results.
