The Plant Engineer (Mechanical Engineering) role is critical within the manufacturing organization, tasked with planning, organizing, and directing all repair and maintenance operations, with a strong focus on preventive maintenance and ensuring optimal plant functionality. This position is essential for providing timely production support, managing departmental human resources effectively, implementing cost control measures, and upholding high occupational safety and health standards.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and direct all repair and maintenance operations with emphasis on preventive maintenance.
- Implement repair and maintenance strategies and action plans to ensure timely production support.
- Ensure attainment of business objectives and repair and maintenance scheduling to ensure optimal plant operations.
- Optimize human resource utilization within the department.
- Establish individual and group accountabilities throughout the department for assigned tasks.
- Keep up to date with and implement new repair and maintenance concepts and procedures.
- Optimize occupational safety and health within the department.
- Identify and highlight to management departmental training needs, staff motivation, and discipline issues.
- Implement cost cutting measures.
- Manage and execute projects.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Relevant university degree (BA/BSc/HND).
- At least 5 years of proven practical experience in a similar position in a manufacturing organization.
- Proven skills in the use of computers as a working and reporting tool.
- Certification for relevant seminars/workshops attended is an added advantage.
- An effective team leader with strong stakeholder engagement skills.
- Demonstrated proactive approach to problem solving with strong decision-making capabilities.
- Excellent understanding of the full repair and maintenance and project management mix.
