Job Description
The Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) is seeking a Pharmaceutical Technologist to be based in Kilifi. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing investigational products, maintaining proper inventory accountability, ensuring SOP and protocol adherence in clinical trials, compounding and dispensing medications, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain investigational products accountability and inventory information and ensure proper storage practices.
Participate in randomization, safeguard randomization, and IP blinding/masking information.
Reconcile records and handle study product in adherence to study protocol and SOPs.
Prepare, review, and enforce SOPs, policies, and standards.
Participate and support in trial monitoring and quality audits.
Raise requisitions for purchase of medicines, medical equipment, and surgical disposables.
Monitor drug stock levels and prevent against pilferage, deterioration, and advise on commercial availability and stock status.
Inspect and monitor supplies compliance to specifications and standards.
Train and supervise students and dispensing clerks on pharmacy and clinical trial procedures.
Compound medicines according to SOPs.
Review and sign off pharmacy reports, records, logs, registers, and other records.
Dispense prescription medicines to out-patient and ward-based clients as prescribed.
Operate, calibrate, and monitor performance of pharmacy equipment and resolve repair issues.
Represent pharmacy at multi-disciplinary meetings and study trial trainings.
Requirements and Qualifications
Diploma in Pharmacy or Pharmaceutical Technology from a recognized college (Mandatory).
Minimum of two (2) years relevant experience (Mandatory).
Pharmaceutical Technologist Certificate and Annual Practice Certificate from the Pharmacy and Poisons Board (Mandatory).
Demonstrated high levels of integrity and confidentiality (Mandatory).
Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills (Mandatory).
Ability to work with diverse, multidisciplinary teams and build strong relationships with internal and external collaborators (Mandatory).
Excellent analytical skills and ability to deliver quality outputs within strict timelines (Mandatory).
Strong team management and decision-making skills (Mandatory).
