The Network Operations Center (NOC) Engineer at Gulf African Bank is responsible for the continuous monitoring and management of the bank's network, server, and overall IT infrastructure health. This role involves proactive monitoring, troubleshooting connectivity issues across various protocols (LAN, WAN, VoIP), and ensuring that all infrastructure incidents are resolved within defined Service Level Agreements (SLAs). The engineer serves as a key escalation point for technical issues and supports the security operations center (SOC) in remediating security-related incidents.
Key Responsibilities
Infrastructure Monitoring: Monitor the health of networks, servers, and general infrastructure using advanced monitoring and alerting tools.
Network Administration: Administer and support core network devices, including routers, switches, and firewalls.
Issue Resolution: Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues across LAN, WAN, wireless, VoIP, and transmission networks.
Incident Management: Respond to incidents, raise and track tickets, and ensure timely resolution within SLAs. Perform root cause analysis (RCA) and implement preventive measures.
Escalation & Support: Act as a primary escalation point for network incidents and support the remediation of SOC-identified security incidents (e.g., firewall rule updates, endpoint isolation).
Vulnerability Management: Support the remediation of infrastructure vulnerabilities in coordination with system and application owners.
Core Services Support: Maintain domain services including DNS, DHCP, authentication, and Network Access Control (NAC) systems.
VoIP Management: Assist in VoIP support, including IP telephony and call quality troubleshooting.
Change Management: Execute approved changes, upgrades, and maintenance activities, including scheduled after-hours work.
Documentation: Maintain accurate documentation, including network diagrams, runbooks, and knowledge base articles.
Qualifications and Experience
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Certifications: Minimum CCNA certification (or equivalent) is required. Additional certifications such as CompTIA Network+, Security+, ITIL, or vendor-specific certifications are an advantage.
Experience: 3–5 years of experience in a NOC, network operations, or network support environment.
Technical Skills
Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, routing, switching, VLANs, and VPNs.
Hands-on experience with routers, switches, and firewalls.
Familiarity with Network Access Control (NAC) solutions and VoIP technologies (SIP, IP telephony).
Working knowledge of Active Directory, DNS, and DHCP.
Experience with monitoring tools like SolarWinds, Nagios, or Wireshark.
Basic understanding of cybersecurity and incident response processes.
