Role Overview
The Medical Laboratory Officer plays a critical role in the diagnostic process by collecting, examining, and analyzing patient specimens. The officer is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of laboratory results to support clinical decision-making and patient care.
Duties and Responsibilities
Receiving and scrutinizing laboratory requisition forms and specimens to ensure they meet required standards.
Preparing clients for the collection of specimens and providing necessary instructions.
Collecting, labeling, and registering patient specimens with high precision.
Preparing various laboratory reagents and stains required for testing.
Examining specimens using appropriate laboratory techniques and equipment.
Accurately writing and recording test results in relevant registers and systems.
Participating in transfusion services, including recruiting, preparing, and bleeding blood donors.
Requirements for Appointment
A Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences or any other equivalent qualification from an institution recognized by the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board (KMLTTB).
Registration certificate issued by the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board (KMLTTB).
A valid practicing license from the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board.
A certificate in computer application skills from a recognized institution.
