Mechanical Engineering Technician

The Mechanical Engineering Technician is responsible for providing essential technical support for practical training and maintaining the mechanical equipment and facilities within the institution's workshop. This role involves operating specialized machinery, ensuring safety standards are met, managing inventory, and supporting the Head of Department in equipment procurement and maintenance planning.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide technical support during practical training.
• Operate the conventional lathe machine, conventional milling machine, and surface grinding machine.
• Operate CNC lathe machine.
• Operate CNC milling machine.
• Provide support in installation, operation, servicing, and maintenance of mechanical equipment.
• Provide support in the area of specialty by repairing and maintaining the institution’s mechanical work.
• Maintaining workshop inventories by receiving, issuing tools and materials in the workshop and ensuring sufficient materials are available.
• Observe and ensure health and safety procedures are practiced and enforced, and accidents reported.
• Make requisitions for consumables to ensure they are replenished in a timely manner and organized for easy tracing.
• Prepare maintenance schedule for all the workshop equipment for approval by the Head of department and maintain requisite records on servicing schedule on various equipment and machinery to ensure the schedule is adhered to.
• Advise the section head on the budgeting requirement of the workshop to ensure that all the requirements are budgeted for.
• Segregate non-functional equipment and machinery to promote safety in the workshop.
• Provide procurement specifications for workshop equipment to be purchased to ensure the purchase of the correct equipment.
• Report breakdown of machinery and equipment to the head of department to advise on replacement needs.
• Supervise the cleaning of the workshop to promote general cleanliness of the workshop and equipment.
• Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the superiors.

Requirements and Qualifications

• Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (Production Option) from a recognized Institution or any other related field.
• At least two years of experience preferably in a learning Institution.
• Strong practical skills in Mechanical systems, tools and equipment.
• Knowledge of Competency Based Education and Training (CBET).
• Must have a valid Certificate of good conduct.
