About the Role
Rafiki wa Maendeleo Trust, through the Rarieda Training and Resource Centre (RTRC), is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Master Crafts technician Instructor to lead the delivery of the Integrated Repair & Maintenance Programme (IRMP)—a practical, impact-driven training programme.
This hands-on role focuses on equipping youth with the skills required to become multi-skilled technicians, capable of carrying out repair, maintenance, and basic installation work across five core technical trades:
- Plumbing & Pipe Fitting
- Masonry
- Electrical Installation (Basic Maintenance)
- Carpentry & Joinery
- Welding & Fabrication
The programme emphasizes a “maintenance-first” approach, teaching trainees how to diagnose problems, carry out preventive maintenance, and perform corrective repairs on real infrastructure such as buildings, water systems, and community facilities. The instructor will deliver competency-based, practical training, combining 1 hour of theory with 2 hours of hands-on application daily. Beyond technical instruction, the instructor will serve as a mentor and role model, guiding trainees to develop a strong work ethic, problem-solving skills, and basic financial literacy.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical Training: Facilitate competency-based training across all five core trades, ensuring trainees develop both specialization and cross-trade competencies.
- Maintenance Education: Train trainees in preventive, corrective, and routine maintenance practices, emphasizing diagnosis and lifecycle management of community infrastructure.
- Asset Management: Guide and oversee trainees in managing and maintaining real community assets (e.g., buildings, water systems), ensuring accountability and quality service delivery.
- Instructional Delivery: Deliver daily training sessions using the 1-hour theory and 2-hour practical model, utilizing real-life repair scenarios and field-based assignments.
- Assessment: Evaluate trainees through continuous formative and summative assessments, including practical tasks, job cards, and portfolios aligned with NITA standards.
- Certification Support: Support trainees to successfully undertake NITA Grade III, II, and I trade tests through structured coaching and mock assessments.
- Mentorship: Instill discipline, teamwork, accountability, and strong work ethics.
- Resource Management: Train trainees in work order management, task prioritization, costing, material estimation, and the 6Rs (Repair, Reuse, Reduce, Recycle, Refurbish, Rethink).
- Safety & Compliance: Enforce occupational safety and health (OSH) standards and ensure all work meets industry and regulatory requirements.
- Reporting: Keep accurate records of trainee progress, maintenance logbooks, and job tracking systems.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
