About the Role
Reporting to the Head of Supply Chain, the Logistics Coordinator is responsible for planning, optimizing, and monitoring all outbound logistics operations to ensure efficient product distribution, optimal fleet utilization, and cost-effective delivery execution across our Kenya network. The role combines data analytics with operational planning and requires a professional who is as comfortable reading a performance dashboard as they are resolving a live delivery exception.
Key Responsibilities
Outbound Planning and Dispatch Execution
- Develop and manage daily and weekly outbound dispatch plans aligned to order demand, delivery priorities, and operational capacity.
- Coordinate dispatch schedules to ensure timely and cost-efficient delivery to customers and distribution points across the network.
- Align logistics plans with sales forecasts, order volumes, and agreed service level requirements.
Fleet Utilization and Route Optimization
- Optimize deployment of company-owned and third-party (2PL) fleet to maximize utilization and minimize idle capacity.
- Design and continuously improve delivery routes to reduce distance, fuel consumption, and turnaround time.
- Monitor and improve load factors across all outbound trips through effective load consolidation and planning.
Performance Monitoring and Reporting
- Track and report key logistics KPIs including fleet utilization, turnaround time (TAT), on-time-in-full (OTIF), load factor, and cost efficiency metrics.
- Build and maintain logistics dashboards and performance reports using Excel and/or Power BI to provide clear visibility to management.
- Analyze historical data to identify trends, inefficiencies, and continuous improvement opportunities.
Cost Management
- Monitor and analyze logistics costs including cost per trip, cost per kilometre, and cost per ton delivered.
- Identify and implement cost-saving opportunities through route optimisation, improved fleet mix, and operational efficiencies.
- Support budgeting and forecasting for the outbound logistics function.
Third-Party Transporter Management
- Coordinate and monitor performance of third-party transporters against agreed service level agreements.
- Evaluate transporter performance on cost, reliability, and delivery efficiency and drive improvements accordingly.
Exception Management and Cross-Functional Coordination
- Identify and resolve operational disruptions including vehicle breakdowns, route challenges, and stock-driven delays, with contingency plans in place.
- Collaborate with Sales, Warehouse, Production, and Finance to ensure logistics operations remain aligned with business priorities.
What We Are Looking For
- 3 to 5 years of experience in outbound logistics planning within an FMCG, manufacturing, or distribution environment.
- Demonstrated experience managing both company-owned fleet and third-party (2PL) transporters.
- Degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Strong analytical proficiency - advanced Excel is essential; experience with Power BI or an ERP/TMS system is a strong advantage.
- Solid working knowledge of logistics KPIs: TAT, OTIF, load factor, fleet utilization, cost per km, and cost per ton delivered.
- Proven ability to identify operational inefficiencies and implement practical, data-driven improvements.
- Professional certification (CILT, CIPS or equivalent) is an added advantage.
