The Legal Officer will be responsible for providing legal expertise and guidance to support various departments, ensuring compliance with the law, minimizing legal risks, and safeguarding the company’s interests. The ideal candidate must have prior experience in the private sector.
Key Responsibilities
Provide timely legal advice on contracts, regulations, policies, and procedures, and explain legal issues to staff.
Ensure compliance with applicable laws and keep the company updated on legislative changes.
Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, identifying risks and recommending safeguards.
Conduct legal research and prepare clear legal opinions and memos.
Support litigation by drafting documents, coordinating with external counsel, and representing the company where required.
Develop and update policies to ensure compliance and reduce legal risk.
Deliver training to improve legal awareness, ethics, and compliance across the company.
Monitor regulatory requirements and manage licenses, permits, and filings.
Maintain organized legal records and implement effective document management systems.
Identify legal risks and work with internal and external stakeholders to mitigate them.
Key Qualifications
At least two (2) years’ relevant post admission experience in the private sector.
Bachelors of Laws (LL.B) from a recognized institution.
Post-graduate Diploma in Law.
Advocate of the High Court of Kenya.
Valid Advocates practicing certificate.
Member of the Law Society of Kenya in good standing.
Certified Secretary (CS) will be an added advantage.
Proficiency in Computer Applications.
