Sheer Logic Management Consultants (SLMC) is seeking a motivated Legal Intern to join our team. This role is designed to provide practical experience in legal research, document management, and compliance within a consultancy framework. The successful candidate will support the legal team in delivering comprehensive legal services across diverse industries and economic sectors in both private and public spheres.
Key Responsibilities
Legal Research: Conducting in-depth research on legal precedents, market regulations, and policies to provide up-to-date information for the legal team and internal stakeholders.
Document Review: Reviewing and organizing legal documents including pleadings, contracts, and internal policies.
Drafting: Supporting the legal team in drafting legal documents such as contracts, letters, opinions, memoranda, legal trackers, and regulatory filings under professional supervision.
Monitoring: Monitoring changes in legislation and regulations and assisting in the development of a legislative tracker covering various regions in Africa.
Compliance: Assisting in the implementation of compliance strategies to ensure organizational adherence to all legal requirements.
Legal Support: Collaborating with the legal team to provide support on various matters, including legal advisory, special projects, commercial negotiations, and transactions.
Administrative Support: Assisting with case management, document filing, archiving, tracking deadlines, managing correspondence, and supporting the legal technology agenda to improve functional efficiency.
General Duties: Performing other related duties as required to support the legal department.
Requirements and Qualifications
Must hold a Bachelor of Law (LLB) degree from a recognized institution.
Must have attended the Kenya School of Law.
Fluency in both written and spoken English is mandatory; intermediate knowledge of French is considered a significant advantage.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Demonstrated knowledge of and keen interest in the law, with a strong willingness to learn.
Ability to provide credible support on matters requiring due diligence and high attention to detail.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to review and interpret the law to draft opinions.
Excellent communication and writing skills.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
