The Legal Assistant position is an entry-level role for law degree holders (without a postgraduate diploma in law) or diploma holders. Working under the guidance of Senior Legal Officers, the officer will be deployed across functional units including Litigation, Conveyancing & Security Documentation, and Contract & Lease Management.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain physical and electronic filing systems for court files, contracts, correspondence, and legal records to ensure proper storage and quick retrieval.
Assist in preparing, compiling, and filing court documents, including pleadings, notices, and affidavits under guidance.
File court documents and follow up on service of process to comply with court requirements and procedures.
Accompany senior legal officers to court proceedings and offer support during mentions, hearings, and related activities.
Monitor deadlines for legal processes, court dates, and obligations, maintaining updated schedules and reminders.
Receive and process internal requests for legal services from various departments and branches.
Conduct legal research and draft basic research memoranda, summaries, and reports.
Maintain legal databases and tracking systems for court cases and legal assignments.
Assist in preparing training materials and compliance awareness sessions for staff.
Prepare routine legal correspondence and follow up on pending matters with internal departments, courts, and external service providers.
Perform any other relevant legal duties assigned.
Requirements & Person Specifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Law; OR Diploma / Advanced Diploma in Law from a recognized institution with a Valid Certificate in Process Service.
At least 2-3 years of working experience providing legal support.
High level of integrity, ethical standards, and professionalism.
Proficiency in computer applications.
Fulfilled requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya.
