Job Description
Kenyatta University is a multi-campus public university in Kenya seeking a dedicated Laundry Attendant to join their team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the complete laundry cycle, ensuring that all linens, towels, and guest clothing are processed efficiently and maintained to the highest standards of cleanliness and care.
Duties and Responsibilities
Laundry Processing: Sort linens, towels, and guest clothing by color and material. Load and operate washing machines, dryers, and ironing equipment.
Cleaning Techniques: Pre-treat stains and ensure proper cleaning techniques are used for different fabrics. Use appropriate detergents and cleaning agents for various types of laundry.
Organization: Fold and organize clean linens and uniforms neatly and accurately. Ensure all items are properly stored and readily available for use.
Inventory Management: Keep track of laundry supplies and chemicals. Notify the supervisor when inventory levels are low and need replenishment.
Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance on laundry machines and equipment. Report any equipment malfunctions or repair needs to the maintenance department.
Quality Control: Inspect finished laundry items for cleanliness, stains, and damage. Re-wash or re-press items that do not meet quality standards.
Guest Services: Handle guest laundry and dry-cleaning requests with care and attention. Ensure guest items are returned promptly and meet quality expectations.
Safety & Compliance: Follow all safety procedures and regulations related to laundry operations. Ensure compliance with university/hotel policies and health standards.
Team Collaboration: Work closely with other housekeeping and maintenance staff to ensure smooth operations. Assist colleagues during busy periods or whenever necessary.
Other Duties: Perform any other duties in the housekeeping department as may be assigned from time to time.
Skills and Qualifications
Certificate or Diploma in housekeeping operations from a recognized institution or any other equivalent qualification.
A minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar role in a busy laundry environment.
High level of accuracy and attention to detail in cleaning tasks.
Ability to stand, walk, and perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods.
Efficient time management skills to ensure all cleaning tasks are completed on schedule.
Strong customer service skills with a friendly and professional demeanor.
Ability to work well with others in a team environment.
