Role Overview
The La Riba Universal Banker is responsible for providing an excellent customer experience and delivering exceptional Islamic Banking business growth and profitability within the branch network. The role involves managing portfolio risks, ensuring compliance with Islamic Banking principles, and maintaining high bank standards of control.
Key Responsibilities
Business Growth (60%)
- Understand and implement Islamic Banking business strategic initiatives for the branch aimed at increasing new business and wallet share from existing customers.
- Maintain a clear understanding of all Retail and Business Banking Islamic Banking products to satisfy customer needs.
- Manage portfolio risks in line with the bank's portfolio appetite.
- Collaborate on the development and implementation of Islamic Banking sales initiatives with other business functions (Direct sales, Asset Finance, CIB, and Bancassurance) to maximize cross-selling.
- Conduct product reviews and development based on market feedback and intelligence.
- Plan and coordinate marketing approaches for new business and actively develop existing relationships.
- Ensure quality sales and that new-to-bank accounts within the portfolio are promptly funded at customer onboarding.
- Monitor own performance against targets daily and initiate action plans to address any shortfalls.
- Work with the Branch Manager to create ownership of branch performance targets and ensure alignment with the Bank's overall strategy.
Internal Controls & Risk Management (10%)
- Adhere to Absa bank’s policies and procedures at all times when handling products.
- Ensure compliance with all KYC & AML processes and ensure proper documentation is in place.
- Avoid losses by complying with Operations Risk requirements.
- Manage operational costs and perform branch snap checks as assigned.
- Ensure accurate capture of customer information in the core banking system and collection of all bank charges/commissions.
Customer Experience (20%)
- Maintain excellent customer experience and adhere to set TAT (Turnaround Time) in onboarding and loan processing.
- Act on customer issues/complaints promptly and escalate where necessary.
- Ensure customer data is up to date and maintain branch NPS (Net Promoter Scores) as per standards.
- Gather customer feedback on service standards for improvement and monitor waiting times during peak periods.
Capacity Building & People Management (10%)
- Create a conducive work environment and promote teamwork.
- Complete assigned e-learning and internal training activities within set timelines.
- Manage own succession planning and leave schedules.
Qualifications and Experience
- Education: A Business-Related Degree from a recognized university.
- Preferred Experience: Experience in Islamic banking and familiarity with various banking products (checking, savings, loans, credit cards).
- Specialized Knowledge: Detailed knowledge of Muslim banking culture, Shariah Law, Shariah Audits, and Islamic financial instruments.
Core Competencies
- Technical: Technology skills (banking applications/spreadsheets), conceptual and analytical skills, and risk management proficiency.
- Regulatory: Understanding of regulatory issues and operational requirements from CBK, KBA, KRA, etc.
- Interpersonal: Strong communication, negotiation, and relationship management skills.
- Ethics: High level of personal integrity and honesty.
