Bowmans is seeking a Knowledge & Learning Senior Associate to support its legal practice groups. The role focuses on enhancing legal knowledge management, facilitating technical training, and driving the adoption of legal technology across the firm, particularly within the East African region.
Role Overview
The particular tasks of the role will depend on the needs of the practice group and the central knowledge team. Responsibilities range from maintaining legal precedents to managing the training curriculum and leading process improvement projects.
Key Responsibilities
Knowledge Management
Writing, maintaining, and quality reviewing submitted legal know-how (e.g., precedents and guidance notes) that support the allocated practice area.
Reading and analyzing current developments to write, manage, and circulate internal and external alerts and briefing notes.
Delivering or facilitating knowledge sharing sessions and developing technical legal training for the practice group.
Providing subject matter expertise and responding to requests for knowledge or technical legal assistance.
Assisting in the rollout and change management of new knowledge projects.
Supporting other East African offices and the wider Bowmans group with research needs.
Supporting the management and maintenance of the physical and online library and e-resources.
Learning and Development
Developing, implementing, and managing the training curriculum for the department.
Assisting with the implementation of evaluation tools and strategies to assess ROI and making necessary recommendations.
Facilitating ongoing cross-office collaboration and learning enhancements.
Supporting the administration and updating of the training budget and liaising with external providers.
Process Improvement and Technology
Identifying opportunities for process improvement and participating in or leading such projects.
Driving adoption and responsible use of legal technology tools, including automation and AI-enabled solutions.
Overseeing the change management process in legal process improvement initiatives.
Responding rapidly and flexibly to the emerging needs of the firm.
Qualifications and Experience
Minimum of 6 years Post-Qualification Experience (PQE), preferably at a senior associate level.
LLB Degree and Advocate of the High Court of Kenya.
Demonstrable experience in Banking, Finance, Real Estate, Construction transactions, or Dispute Resolution.
Proven experience in project management.
Demonstrable strong research, drafting, and communication skills.
Demonstrable experience in legal technology and innovation.

Ability to work within a team, cross-jurisdictionally, and autonomously.
Aptitude with new technologies.
Ability to produce comprehensive reports.
