Role Overview
The primary role of the Kitchen Steward is to maintain a clean, safe, and organized kitchen environment. This involves performing essential cleaning tasks, washing dishes, and managing waste to ensure that the culinary team has the necessary tools and space to operate efficiently and meet hotel standards. Jumuia Resorts is a chain of Christian conference centers and hospitality facilities owned and operated by the National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK).
Key Responsibilities and Duties
Food Preparation Support: Prepare ingredients required for main dishes on time according to hotel recipes and ensure food is cooked and prepared to the correct specifications.
Hygiene & Safety: Clean the entire kitchen area according to the maintenance schedule to ensure high standards of hygiene. Follow strict food safety procedures to prevent cross-contamination and food-borne illnesses.
Timeliness: Ensure that dishes and kitchen tools are prepared and cleaned in a timely manner to support service flow.
Equipment Maintenance: Operate and maintain kitchen equipment such as ovens, stovetops, and grills safely.
Inventory & Logistics: Assist with ordering kitchen supplies as needed and receive supplied items from the delivery area.
Compliance: Adhere to all Health and Safety regulations and implement the Jumuia Resorts Strategic plan and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Waste Management: Ensure proper disposal of waste items and empty waste bins on a daily basis.
Requirements and Qualifications
Education: At least Secondary School Education (KCSE).
Professional Qualification: At least a Certificate in Hospitality.
Experience: Must have worked in a similar position for at least one year.
Certifications: Must possess a valid Food Handler certificate.
Competencies: Must maintain the highest hygiene standards at all times, possess good planning and organization skills, and be a reliable team player.
