Role Overview
Worldreader is seeking a creative and motivated Social Media & Marketing Intern to support the planning, creation, and management of digital content across our social media platforms. This role offers hands-on experience in digital marketing, content creation, and audience engagement within the nonprofit sector. The intern will collaborate closely with the communications and programs teams to amplify Worldreader’s impact and storytelling online. This is an unpaid hybrid internship based in Nairobi, Kenya.
Responsibilities and Duties
Content Creation: Assist in creating and scheduling engaging content for social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn. Support the development of graphics, short videos, and captions.
Campaign Support: Help develop and execute social media campaigns aligned with organizational goals and digital promotion of events and partnerships.
Community Management: Monitor social media channels, respond to comments/messages, and support community engagement.
Performance Tracking: Track and analyze social media performance metrics and prepare basic reports.
Impact Storytelling: Collaborate with Programs and Communications teams to collect and share impact stories, photos, and videos.
Operations: Maintain a content calendar, conduct research on social media trends, best practices, and audience preferences.
Time Frame and Deliverables
Period: June 10 - October 9, 2026.
Commitment: Up to 15 hours per week.
Final Project: Submit a final report and/or presentation culminating your experience to Worldreader staff at the end of the internship.
Requirements and Qualifications
Must be a Kenyan resident.
Currently enrolled as an undergraduate at a 4-year university or a postgraduate student.
Studying Marketing, Communications, Digital Media, Public Relations, or a related field.
Proficiency in written and verbal communication.
Familiarity with major social media platforms and current digital trends.
Preference for basic skills in content creation tools such as Canva, CapCut, or Adobe Suite.
Ability to work effectively in a hybrid environment (must visit the Nairobi office at least once per week).
Possession of a personal computer and a reliable internet connection.
Commitment to the specified internship timeframe.
