Role Overview
The Office of the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for the Great Lakes Region (OSESG-GL) is seeking a Political Affairs Intern to support its Political Affairs Unit (PAU) in Nairobi. The intern will work under the overall supervision of a Political Affairs Officer and contribute to the unit's mandate of addressing regional stability and peace. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain experience in international diplomacy, research, and the operational activities of a United Nations special envoy office.
Responsibilities
Documentation Support: Prepare various documents for review, including official correspondence, talking points, and detailed background notes.
Research: Conduct comprehensive research in areas of interest to the Political Affairs Unit, utilizing public sources to provide insights on regional developments.
Meeting Participation: Attend meetings, conferences, and seminars; prepare summary notes and reports to document proceedings and outcomes.
Logistical Assistance: Provide support in the organization and coordination of conferences, meetings, seminars, and workshops.
General Support: Perform other administrative and operational duties as required by the unit.
Requirements
Education: Must be currently enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (Master's, PhD, or equivalent) in International Relations, Political Sciences, Economics, Development, Public Administration, or related fields.
Technical Proficiency: Must be computer literate and proficient in standard office software applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
UN Commitment: Demonstrated interest in the work of the United Nations and a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter.
Interpersonal Skills: Proven ability to interact effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and beliefs, showing tolerance and openness to differing opinions.
