Job Description
The Centre for Innovation in Medical Education (CIME) at Aga Khan University Hospital is seeking an Intern to support the simulator fabrication team. The primary purpose of this role is to create and systematically test materials used in the manufacture of simulators, including silicones, hydrogels, and gelatins.
Key Responsibilities
Specimen Preparation: Prepare material specimens for evaluation and testing.
Mechanical and Physical Testing: Conduct systematic physical and mechanical evaluations of the created materials.
Data Recording and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of test results and draft comprehensive reports.
Comparative Material Evaluation: Analyze and compare different material formulations to determine suitability.
Laboratory Safety and Housekeeping: Adhere strictly to chemical-handling and PPE protocols, manage cure-inhibition risks, clean the workspace, and maintain equipment logs.
General Team Support: Assist the broader simulator fabrication team with related tasks as required.
Requirements and Qualifications
Currently enrolled in, or recently completed, an undergraduate degree in engineering (biomedical, mechanical or materials), chemistry, applied sciences, or a related discipline.
Exposure to basic mechanics of materials and/or laboratory chemistry is an advantage.
Prior laboratory, workshop or fabrication experience (including academic project work) is desirable.
Comfortable with spreadsheets and basic data handling; exposure to ASTM or ISO test methods is an advantage.
