About the Role
Reporting to the CEO, Britam Micro Insurance, the Innovations Manager will drive customer growth by developing innovative products, processes, and technology solutions for individual and SME emerging consumers, using an agile innovation model. The role holder will set up and own Britam’s emerging consumer innovation model, lead strategy execution aligned to business goals, and drive grants and fundraising partnerships with donors, DFIs, and innovation funds to unlock co-financing for innovation and scale.
Key Responsibilities
- Customer Growth & Product Innovation: Drive growth in customer numbers by developing innovative solutions (products, processes, and technology) for individual and SME emerging consumers.
- Market & Customer Insights: Build a data-driven view of customer segments and their evolving needs, collaborating with the Head of Business Development and external partners to identify unaddressed needs and co-create tailored solutions.
- Commercial Appraisal & Delivery: Appraise projects for commercial viability, coordinate delivery across the business to ensure innovation projects land on time and on budget, and secure the right cross-functional representation.
- Pipeline Management: Manage a continuous pipeline of ideas from stakeholders across the business, turning insights into a steady stream of innovative solutions.
- Market Scanning: Continuously scan the local and global landscape for new products, technologies, and solutions that sharpen Britam’s competitive edge and elevate customer satisfaction.
- Strategic Partnerships: Identify and cultivate strategic partnerships beyond InsureTechs, FinTechs, and banks to deepen insurance penetration across the region.
- Strategy Execution: Drive execution of the innovation strategy, translating it into a clear roadmap aligned with Britam MicroInsurance’s broader business goals.
- Grants & Fundraising: Lead grants and fundraising efforts, building relationships with donors, development finance institutions (DFIs), and innovation funds to unlock co-financing.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with project teams and stakeholders across the business.
- Executive Reporting: Develop and present proposals, project updates, and findings to the CEO, including risk mitigations, cost-benefit analysis, and clear action plans.
- Project Documentation: Develop complete project design and execution documentation, with task-level project plans to manage external partners and cross-functional teams.
- Requirements Definition: Collaborate with project teams to define and validate business requirements.
- Governance: Exercise delegated authority as per the approved Delegated Authority Matrix, performing other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar role with proven innovation experience in the Financial Services Industry.
- University degree in Actuarial Science, Engineering, IT, or Commerce.
- Project Management certification and practical experience.
- Proven ability to review and appraise commercial viability of projects.
- Master of Business Administration (MBA) is an added advantage.
