Role Overview
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Head of Supply Chain provides strategic leadership and oversight of procurement, logistics, and inventory management to ensure efficient, transparent, and cost-effective supply of pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, consumables, and services. The role ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, drives supply chain efficiency and cost optimization, and supports high-quality patient care through reliable supply management.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategy Development: Develop and implement the hospital’s Supply Chain Strategy aligned with the hospital’s strategic plan.
- Modernization: Lead initiatives to modernize supply chain processes through automation, digital systems, and data analytics.
- Advisory: Provide strategic guidance to executive management on supply chain risks, opportunities, and cost optimization.
- Leadership: Serve as a member of the hospital’s senior leadership team and provide leadership to procurement, logistics, stores, and inventory teams.
- Procurement Oversight: Oversee all procurement activities, including pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, consumables, and services, ensuring processes are transparent and compliant.
- Policy Management: Establish procurement policies, procedures, internal controls, and ensure compliance with procurement laws.
- Contract Management: Oversee tendering processes, supplier selection, and negotiate strategic contracts for cost efficiency and quality assurance.
- Supplier Relations: Develop long-term partnerships with key suppliers and establish supplier performance management systems/audits.
- Compliance & Risk: Ensure operations comply with national regulations and healthcare standards (e.g., Pharmacy and Poisons Board, Kenya Bureau of Standards) and implement risk mitigation against supply disruptions or fraud.
- Budgeting: Develop and manage the supply chain budget, monitoring spending and identifying cost-saving opportunities.
- Team Development: Build capacity through training and professional development while promoting ethical practices and accountability.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Logistics, Business Administration, or related field. A Master’s Degree in a related discipline is preferred.
- Certification: Professional certification in procurement such as CPSP-K.
- Membership: Active membership with the Kenya Institute of Supplies Management (KISM).
- Experience: Minimum 10–12 years’ experience in supply chain or procurement management, with at least 5–7 years in a senior leadership role, preferably within a healthcare institution.
