The Head of Marketing & Business Development is a senior leadership role responsible for driving the strategic marketing, brand equity, and business growth initiatives across the region.
Responsibilities
Portfolio Management (35% of time)
- Strategic Guidance: Provide strategic marketing guidance to R&D strategy and long-term planning, collaborating on the organization's strategic direction.
- Market Analysis: Monitor market information and competitor movements, specifically volumes and prices of key molecules.
- Product Development: Oversee New Product Development (NPD) processes, systems (Calyx and GNPL), budgets, and timelines.
- Product Launches: Manage the introduction and optimization of new product introduction including launch strategy, campaigns, and field activities.
- Technical Materials: Create technical material, speaker packs, presentations, brochures, and marketing collateral.
- GTM Strategy: Partner with Sales, Commercial, and Product teams to co-create go-to-market strategies for new products and services.
Brand Equity (30% of time)
- Brand Awareness: Build brand awareness through campaigns, publications, field activities, demonstrations, and reports.
- Brand Governance: Ensure the brand is on point and consistently represented.
- Innovative Messaging: Drive innovation in delivering the brand message to the market.
- Customer Loyalty: Manage loyalty programmes, incentives, and focus on customer relationship management and satisfaction.
- Intellectual Property: Manage trademark applications including searches and registrations.
Strategic Marketing Leadership (25% of time)
- Strategic Planning: Lead strategic planning sessions with cross-functional teams to ensure marketing initiatives support commercial goals.
- Market Insights: Identify market trends, emerging opportunities, and potential risks.
- Budget Management: Develop and manage the sub-regional marketing budget, ensuring efficient allocation of resources and ROI.
- Performance Tracking: Track spending against budget and report variances with corrective action plans.
Business Development (10% of time)
- Growth Opportunities: Identify opportunities within UPL as well as with external 3rd party partners.
- Contract Negotiation: Manage all discussions, alignment, negotiations, and contracts.
- Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong internal and external relationships.
Requirements
Technical Requirements
- Education: BA/BSc/HND qualification in a relevant field.
- Domain Expertise: Advanced knowledge of crop protection, seed treatments, BioSolutions, and ag-input technologies.
- Market Intelligence: Strong expertise in market intelligence, segmentation, and competitor mapping.
- Commercial Skills: Skilled in developing pricing strategies, value mapping, and profitability analysis.
- Lifecycle Management: Experience with product lifecycle management and new product introduction processes.
- Digital Tools: Proficient in digital marketing tools, CRM platforms, and data-driven marketing.
- Financial Acumen: Strong financial acumen (NPV, margin analysis, licensing cost structures).
- Technical Tools: Advanced MS Excel, Power BI, and reporting tools.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with global agricultural regulatory frameworks.
- Leadership Experience: Experience managing cross-border teams across the Eastern Africa and IOI region.
