The Regional Advocacy and External Engagement Graduate Intern will provide administrative, research, planning, note-taking, and policy analysis support. The role is aligned with the World Vision East Africa Region and Partnership Strategy, Our Promise 2030, Going Further Than We Imagined. The role will support the achievement of four Advocacy and External Engagement Outcomes:
- Outcome 1: Child well-being and rights are advanced through child-sensitive policies, investments, and services including Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Citizen Voice and Action (CVA)
- Outcome 2: The ENOUGH Campaign to end Child Hunger and Malnutrition
- Outcome 3: All children are prioritized through humanitarian advocacy
- Outcome 4: Lead and Manage EAR Advocacy and External Engagement
This internship is a 12-month talent incubation programme aiming to give young Christian graduates real work experience, personal, spiritual, and professional development through on-the-job mentorship and coaching.
Key Responsibilities
Monitor and Report on Field Office Advocacy Progress (Impact)
- Schedule, send the agenda, and take meeting notes for dissemination and filing in Box for Regional Advocacy Forum (quarterly), 9 FO bimonthly (once every two months) calls, and External Engagement Meetings.
- Update the EAR, FO, and external partners contact list.
- File and organize the EAR Advocacy documents in Box.
- Draft the quarterly Board Report.
- Update key events from 1 October 2023 – 30 September 2024 including people reached and children reached.
- Develop regional trends in Excel of advocacy performance documents namely: Annual plans, Advocacy Maturity Matrix (AMM), Advocacy Strategic Measures (ASM), Advocacy Capacity Statements, and External Engagement Plans.
Research and Analysis (Influence)
- Draft 2 policy briefs (one every 6 months).
- Update the EAR statistics table quarterly.
- Compile children's voices from the ENOUGH Campaign launches and develop 1 EAR Report.
- Track and update the policy change agenda across 9 FOs for the ENOUGH Campaign.
Networking and External Engagement
- Schedule, send the agenda, and take meeting notes for dissemination and filing in Box for EAR External Engagement team quarterly.
- Schedule 4 high-level External Engagement meetings.
- Review the EE tracker monthly and follow up with the EE Team.
- Track key messages on humanitarian advocacy for 4 FOs quarterly.
Administrative Support, Planning, and Reporting
- Prepare draft budget, agenda, and logistics (flights, accommodation, meals, ground transport, advocacy material, passports, and visas) for World Vision EAR Advocacy internal and external meetings, workshops, launches, conferences, or forums.
- Upload relevant documents on regional World Vision EAR Advocacy statements, policy briefs, and other documents across platforms such as WV Central, Relief Web, and Box.
Amplify Children's Voices
- Participate in quarterly meetings of the EAR Children's Council, take notes, and disseminate.
- Organise 1 physical meeting for the EAR Children's Council.
- Develop social media captions.
- Support in developing staff notes for specific commemorative days.
- Support in monitoring social media responses.
Qualifications and Experience
- 1 to 2 years of experience in advocacy, external engagement, campaigns, or policy analysis work in developing countries.
- Knowledge on Child Rights including the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child or the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
- Experience planning and organizing workshops or forums for participants in multiple countries.
- Excellent communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills, particularly in a cross-cultural environment.
- Planning and organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple activities.
- Research experience especially in policy and advocacy.
- Understanding of humanitarian and fragile contexts.
- Bachelor's degree in social sciences, communication, public policy, management, or law.
- Must have graduated within the last 2 years.
- Training certificate on advocacy, child rights, and policy influence is an added advantage.
