Role Overview
Amentum is seeking a Food Service Worker to support operations in Lamu. This role involves serving as a cafeteria, delicatessen, or bakery worker, assisting with the preparation, presentation, and serving of a variety of foods including specialty meats, salads, breads, and sweets. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring a high-quality dining experience for patrons while maintaining a clean and efficient workspace.
Key Responsibilities
Food Preparation and Service: Weigh, price, and wrap selected foods. Prepare food displays in counter cases. Make hot and cold sandwiches, fruit/vegetable trays, and salads following routine recipes. Slice and mix simple ingredients as needed.
Customer Service: Greet customers at the service counter, take special orders, and answer basic questions regarding specialty foods. Process payments and provide change.
Maintenance and Sanitation: Clean counters, trays, and dishes. Maintain the cleanliness of preparation, work, and display areas. Regularly inspect and clean kitchen equipment.
Bakery and Inventory Support: Assist in measuring and mixing ingredients for bakery items like pastries, cakes, and breads. Receive and unload delivery trucks and organize stock.
Compliance: Ensure all activities adhere to proper food handling procedures and safety standards.
Qualifications and Experience
Education: BA/BSc/HND degree is required.
Experience: 1+ years of experience as a food service worker in the industry. Previous experience as a busboy, washer, waiter, or cook is highly relevant.
Technical Skills: Ability to read and follow standardized recipes and a strong knowledge of food handling procedures.
Physical Requirements: Endurance to stand for an entire shift, with the ability to bend, kneel, and lift at least 25 pounds.
Certifications: ServeSafe Certification is preferred.
General Requirements: Valid country driver’s license and passport. Ability to obtain required country visas and pass contract medical requirements.
Soft Skills: Self-motivated, excellent time management, and the ability to work effectively in a busy, fast-paced team environment.
Environment: Previous experience in an austere OCONUS environment with a multi-national workforce is an added advantage.
