Job Description
This posting contains two employment opportunities within the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Tanzania Country Office (WWF TCO) for the Reinforcing Management and Governance of Ocean and Coastal Resources (REMAGO) project, which is funded by GIZ.
Position 1: Fisheries Officer
The Fisheries Officer supports the implementation of project activities focused on strengthening community capacity for sustainable management of marine and coastal resources, aiming for ecological balance and improved livelihoods in Rufiji, Kibiti, and Kilwa. This role involves close collaboration with district authorities, community groups, and stakeholders to enhance fisheries governance, support livelihoods, and ensure accurate data quality in fisheries value chains.
Key Duties and Responsibilities for Fisheries Officer:
Provide technical input for improving fisheries governance in Beach Management Units (BMUs), Village Learning Centers (VLCs), and Community Forest Management Areas (CFMAs).
Support project planning, management, monitoring, and reporting, including preparing technical progress and annual reports.
Participate in budgeting and work plan development.
Support the implementation of WWF TCO’s Conservation Strategic Plan (CSP3).
Facilitate community-led business and investment opportunities (e.g., Somanga fish market).
Develop and manage Somanga Fish Market business plans and sustainability strategies.
Engage community leaders, BMUs, and committees for market construction and operations.
Oversee project-related contracts with third-party institutions.
Strengthen surveillance, monitoring, and enforcement against illegal fishing and mangrove deforestation.
Support the development of sustainable fishing enterprises (e.g., Community Microfinance Groups (CMGs), VICOBA).
Coordinate training for marine resource management and capacity building.
Manage the WWF Kilwa Office, including staff, equipment, and logistics.
Position 2: Senior Project Officer (SPO)
The Senior Project Officer oversees the implementation of the REMAGO project, providing leadership in project planning, execution, reporting, and stakeholder engagement across Rufiji, Mafia, and Kilwa. The SPO ensures project objectives are met in alignment with WWF’s conservation goals and manages field operations, partnerships, and communications.
Key Duties and Responsibilities for Senior Project Officer:
Provide overall project oversight, ensuring delivery within timelines and budget.
Supervise field teams and ensure quality of project outputs.
Coordinate with GIZ, government, and stakeholders for implementation progress.
Develop and manage Terms of Reference (ToRs) for consultants and contractors.
Oversee construction of fish market facilities and infrastructure.
Implement WWF TCO’s Marine Programme and Conservation Strategic Plan.
Lead training and capacity building for partner institutions and communities.
Prepare high-quality technical progress reports (semi-annual and annual).
Manage relationships with government entities (Fisheries Division, MPRU, NEMC, etc.).
Support conservation planning and sustainable livelihood initiatives.
Manage project budgets, monitoring, and evaluation processes.
